Inspiration
I am a huge fan of thrifting and up cycling clothes! Often when I am thrifting I find really cool clothing items that I don't end up buying, because they aren't my size or won't fit with my wardrobe. Because thrift stores cycle out clothing, it always upsets me when I see a cool clothing item that could potentially be thrown out. Currently, the only options I have to share about these thrift finds would be through social media (where it may be difficult to target the people who would actually be interested in the item) or by buying and then reselling the item myself (which would take time and would likely involve up-charging the person I give the item to).
What it does
I wanted to create a website where there were tabs for different Boston thrifting locations. Within these tabs, people could post about items they found while thrifting that they didn't buy. The posts could then be removed by others when they purchase the item or cannot find it at the thrift store. Due to time constraints and some challenges I ran into, I was only able to implement the front-end of this website, so it does not currently actually have the functionality to add/remove posts.
How I built it
I used Figma to create an outline, and then HTML and CSS to code the website.
Challenges we ran into
- After creating the outline in Figma, I tried to code it in React, which I was not familiar with.
- I decided to switch to HTML because I had a bit of familiarity with from a very small prior project, and ended up losing progress in the process in order to make that shift.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- Even though React didn't work out, I am glad I tried something new.
- I am also glad I chose to make the change from React to HTML despite losing progress because I think it made my end product better and I learned more in the process.
What I learned
- How to use Figma
- Becoming way more familiar with HTML and CSS
What's next for ThriftBuddy
-Developing Backend -Creating map for thrift store locations that tabs link to -Allowing users to create accounts where they can "like" posts
