Inspiration
Kahoot inspires the quizzing of this game and its design, with a similar format and selection element. However, the mechanism behind the game itself is inspired by 2D platformers like Hollow Knight.
What it does
This game is built to quiz others on its business knowledge by linking the quizzing process directly with the success of one's character in a video game. The platformer itself is timed, with each player receiving a score on how fast they can find the hidden treasure, and to get more time on the platformer to find the treasure, players must answer questions. Depending on how many questions someone can answer correctly, they are allocated additional time on the platformer level.
How I built it
I used GDevolep's event-based platform to build this. The program consists of 3 main stages, the player selection/rules, the quiz, and the platformer. Each of these events is made into a different scene, with circumstances dictating how the game plays out. For example, if someone is to get two answers right on the quiz, they are given 30 seconds on the platformer rather than the usual 10.
Challenges I ran into
One of the main challenges I ran into was the sprite design. I am much more of a coder than an artist, so I used a mix of the free sprite packs I could find on GDevolep's app.
What I learned
Game development is enjoyable and complex, but it's one of the best ways to progress my coding career. With something to show for all my hard work, I appreciate game development, even with its challenges.
