Inspiration

The idea came from a simple but unsettling question: What if the future isn’t determined by what we build, but by what we’re willing to sacrifice? We were inspired by climate inertia, AI acceleration, and human tendency to choose convenience over resilience. “The Last Choice” frames this tension as a single moment split into two radically different futures—forcing users to confront the cost of inaction

What it does

“The Last Choice” is an immersive interactive experience set inside a futuristic spaceship cockpit. Users stand at a decision point between three doors—PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE—but the core experience reveals two diverging futures: • A resilient future where humanity embraces difficult trade-offs for long-term survival • A collapsed future where comfort leads to systemic failure

Through environmental storytelling, visuals, and branching interactions, users experience consequences rather than just read about them.

How we built it

How we built it • Frontend: Built an immersive 3D scene using modern web rendering (e.g., Three.js/WebGL or similar stack) • Design: Photorealistic sci-fi environment with cinematic lighting and spatial storytelling • Interaction Layer: User-triggered transitions between narrative states (doors → futures) • Content Engine: Scenario-driven storytelling mapped to user choices • Assets: Generated and curated visuals for consistent tone and realism

The system is modular—new futures, scenarios, and narratives can be plugged in easily.

Challenges we ran into

Challenges we ran into • Balancing narrative vs interaction: Avoiding a “click-through story” while keeping agency meaningful • Visual consistency: Maintaining realism across generated assets and different perspectives • Performance: Rendering a high-fidelity environment smoothly in a browser • Abstraction problem: Representing complex global issues (climate, AI, society) in a simple but powerful way • Emotional impact: Making the experience feel consequential without being overwhelming or preachy

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Challenges we ran into • Balancing narrative vs interaction: Avoiding a “click-through story” while keeping agency meaningful • Visual consistency: Maintaining realism across generated assets and different perspectives • Performance: Rendering a high-fidelity environment smoothly in a browser • Abstraction problem: Representing complex global issues (climate, AI, society) in a simple but powerful way • Emotional impact: Making the experience feel consequential without being overwhelming or preachy

What we learned

What we learned • People engage more deeply when they experience outcomes, not just read about them • Simplicity in interaction can amplify the weight of a decision • Visual storytelling can replace large amounts of explanatory text • Constraints (time, scope) actually improved focus on the core message • The hardest part isn’t building features—it’s deciding what to leave out

What's next for The Last Choice

What’s next for The Last Choice • Expand into multiple decision points instead of a single moment • Add personalization based on user behavior or real-world data • Integrate AI-driven narrative generation for dynamic futures • Deploy as a VR/AR experience for deeper immersion • Introduce educational modules for schools and awareness programs • Track user choices to visualize collective outcomes over time
