Inspiration

There is little funding allocated to the study of life and evolution through deep time.

The UNSW Paleontology Laboratory has been working on the Riversleigh World Heritage site for over 30 years and have described over 200 new extinct species between 15 and 25 million years old.

A lower jaw for a new species of Malleodectes has been discovered from Riversleigh, dating around 19 million years ago. This specimen has been prepared and the research paper to describe this specimen is in the works.

The species name for this new species of Malleodectes will be auctioned using smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain.

The winning bid for this species name auction will then collaborate with the UNSW Paleo Lab to name this new species.

Funds from the winning bid will be put to good use on deep time research.

What it does

The Infinity Immortality Engine smart contract is a "factory" that allows items like the Malleodectes species name to be auctioned off. The DAI stablecoin is used as the payment method as this provides the funding to real world fiat currency expenses.

Accounts bid using DAI, and the winning account pays the second highest bid + DAI 0.01. Non-winners withdraw their DAI at the end of the auction.

The ENS reverse name resolutions on the web front end will help identify user's accounts, if the user chooses to provide this information.

Users can use Kyber Swap to convert ETH to DAI for bidding.

How I built it

Smart contract for the auction, and a factory to easily deploy new auctions.

Challenges I ran into

None.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

The smart contracts and bootstrap-vue/web3 user interface.

What I learned

Always learning.
