Inspiration
I came up with the game concept after reading a book called Mistborn: The Fallen Empire. In it the heroes are able to push and pull metal to scale buildings and defeat their enemies, and I found that very intriguing as a game concept
What it does
It's a simple platformer at heart, but the complexity comes as you have to figure out how to pull yourself towards the "pull blocks" to scale the level and reach the end
How I built it
The game was built in Unity alone, using custom sprite work and built in Unity assets
Challenges I ran into
The mechanics of the game were the hardest part to get right, as it is the core of the game. But, after that was complete, designing an entire level proved to be very difficult as well.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Creating a full level to demo at a Hackathon is something I haven't really been able to do yet, so I look forward to showing off something people can try out for themselves
What I learned
Tile maps, menu controls, controller movement, and ray casting to name a few
What's next for The Hooded Realm
Hopefully more levels, and new mechanics to keep the game fresh and fun
