Abstract

Waking up in the morning is a true hassle. As college students, running on less than 5 hours of sleep is extremely regular, and when it comes to waking up in the morning, the snooze button can feel like our best friend at times. With no solution to the snooze button, and no way of really waking your mind up in the morning, we are left with forcing ourselves out of bed and risking falling back asleep again.

Enter the focus alarm. With the goal of putting your brain to the test in the morning, we have designed a solution that is sure to wake you up (even if you may be annoyed). By providing the user with the only way to turn of the alarm being math problems to be completed sequentially, it can be rewarding to finally have turned off your alarm with your brain prepared to tackle a day of engineering, or whatever else you may do!

Motivation

I have had trouble waking up in the morning my whole life. An alarm solution that forces me out of bed would be great, but it feels like everyone has their own idea of what a good wakeup method is. For me, I need something that will force my brain to think a little bit harder to wake me up, and integrate well with my smart home tools to make my morning a little easier.
