How we built it

Our website is built primarily on Python, leveraging the Flask framework to handle web interactions. The frontend of our website is designed with HTML and CSS, ensuring an appealing and user-friendly interface. These technologies help us present information and recommendations in an intuitive and engaging manner.

One of the standout features of our platform is the inclusion of a character known as Eco Buddy, who provides assistance and insights. To bring Echo Buddy to life, we employed Python's Pygame library. For the Echo Buddy's communication abilities, we used the Natural Language Toolkit (NLTK) with the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary. This allowed us to break down words into phonemes, the smallest units of sound in language. Our platform utilizes both phonemes and visemes. Phonemes are essential for generating lifelike speech, while visemes are used to animate Echo Buddy's facial expressions, creating a more engaging and empathetic interaction.

To transform text into speech, we integrated the Google Text-to-Speech (gTTS) library. This feature enables Eco Buddy to audibly convey information, making it more accessible and engaging for users.

Challenges we ran into

We encountered a few challenges during the development of our website. One of our primary aspirations was to integrate the Pygame application for Echo Buddy directly onto our website, creating an interactive and engaging user experience. While this remains a part of our future roadmap, during the initial phases, we faced technical complexities that temporarily hindered this integration. We're dedicated to overcoming this challenge and are committed to bringing Echo Buddy to our platform in the future.
