Inspiration
I have always been a very big fan of the artwork present in the books by Kobold Press. For this project I was assigned to create a character based on a preexisting concept, so making something from one of their bestiaries was my first instinct. The Curator, being one of my favorite designs, was quick to top the list of potential concepts for the project.
What it does
This piece acts as a jumping off point for future iterations. The character has been built with future rigging and animation in mind, and will act as the model I will use when learning to improve these skills later this semester.
How we built it
This model was built using a number of programs; the high res was competed in Zbrush, after which the retopology and low res modeling was done in blender, texturing was done in Substance Painter, and it was presented in Marmoset Toolbag.
Challenges we ran into
This was the first character I have made using Blender over Maya for retopology so the process of learning a new software did add a good amount time to that stage of the project.
What we learned
I learned quite a bit about blender, specifically "retopo flow," through the development of the character.
What's next for "The Curator"
My intention for the future of this project is to fully rig him, then build out an environment fitting of the character where he may be better presented.
Built With
- blender
- marmoset
- substance
