Inspiration
This project was inspired by our observations that some people find it hard to criticize or give feedback to others. We thought that by having an anonymous chat app between colleagues, people would be more willing to give constructive feedback to their coworkers.
What it does
The Breakroom enables users to join "rooms" with their colleagues, where they can anonymously give constructive feedback to each other.
How we built it
We designed the UI in Figma, and we built the app in Android Studio using Java. We used Firebase authentication and Firebase's instant database for cloud messaging.
Challenges we ran into
None of us had any Firebase or Android development experience. As such, learning these technologies within the span of two days was very challenging. Regardless, we persevered and managed to put together this anonymous chatting app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to make a functional Android group chatting app using Firebase, especially since this was the first time any of us worked with these technologies.
What we learned
We learned about Android development and how to use Firebase authentication as well as Firebase databases.
What's next for The Breakroom
We hope to flush out the features that we introduced in this initial version, as well as make the UI more appealing.
