Inspiration
We chose the closed challenge because we wanted structure. However, we quickly found that it was more challenging than we thought.
What it does
Our robot is built to tackle the hackathon's three Challenges: colour detection and flag placement, maze navigation, and colour pattern detection.
How we built it
Our entire software stack was written using Arduino IDE, without generative AI. The work was divided equally with people working in both frontend and backend.
Challenges we ran into
The BIGGEST challenge was the accursed orange claw. The claw just wouldn't move even though we could hear the noise the servo was making. Many iterations overnight had to be given to fix the claw.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our original codebase, creative problem-solving and teamwork.
What we learned
We learned how to build an embedded system to overcome real-life challenges. We also learned many practical hardware skills, broadened our existing skills with hardware, and how to deal with less favourable 3-D printing results...
What's next for The Best Group
We hope to continue to improve our tech stack for a fully autonomous vehicle system, such as path planning, more perception, and controllers.
