Inspiration

We were inspired by classic murder mystery stories and corporate thrillers where power, secrets, and pressure collide behind closed office doors. During the hackathon, we wanted to build something more immersive than a typical app something that tells a story. The idea of a CFO being killed inside a corporate office, felt like most people can't even think of it, high-stakes, and perfect for exploring motives like money, access, and internal politics. We also wanted to experiment with AI since we have used it before.

What it does

  • AI powered voice will tell us instruction and the context for the start of the game
  • Analyzing inconsistencies in stories and behaviors -Exploring digital clues tied to corporate systems and access

How we built it

-React for the front end end to create an interactive game like user experience

  • Flask for the back end to manage game logic and API routes
  • AI powered chat prompts to give each character a distinct personality

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge was controlling the AI responses so characters stayed in character and didn’t reveal information they shouldn’t.
We also had to balance storytelling vs. technical scope within a 24-hour hackathon deciding what features were essential versus “nice to have.”
Debugging front-end and back-end communication under time pressure was another hurdle, especially when handling multiple character states.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully turning AI into interactive story characters, not just a chatbot
  • Creating a playable narrative experience within a short hackathon timeframe
  • Designing a system that feels immersive and expandable
  • Building a full-stack project that combines storytelling, logic, and technology

What we learned

We learned how powerful AI can be when used creatively, especially for narrative-driven applications.
We also gained hands-on experience with:

  • Full-stack development under time pressure
  • Prompt engineering and AI behavior control
  • Structuring a project so it can scale beyond a demo Because before this we never used AI, never did backend or deployed a project before

What's next for The audit that killed

  • Add branching endings based on player decisions
  • Introduce evidence tracking and a suspicion system
  • Expand the cast of characters and deepen their backstories
  • Improve UI/UX to feel even more like a detective game
  • Make AI more free to invent things to keep the story going maybe one day even the creator won't know the ending
