Inspiration

To put it simply, all four of us are total fandom nerds who seek to incorporate media we love into the projects we create. We were inspired by visual novel games, anime, and the Genshin community’s passion for the colorful cast of characters. We also wanted to build something unique that we knew would stand out. As such, teyvat.vn was born.

What it does

tevyat.vn is a visual novel AI companion that creates Genshin Impact fanfictions at the touch of a button. Just drop a prompt and sit back while Google Gemini weaves your idea into a fully-fledged VN-style story starring two of your favorite characters.

tevyat.vn is unaffiliated with Genshin Impact, HoYoverse, or miHoYo. This is a non-commercial fan project created for educational purposes. All assets belong to their respective owners.

How we built it

After creating some rough outlines, our designer created a high fidelity prototype using Figma. From there.. the front end and back end developers began coding the project. The project was a collaborative effort across the four of us. Special shoutout to the Genshin Impact Wiki, caffeine, and snacks.

Challenges we ran into

We had many obstacles to overcome in order to build teyvat.vn, including:

  • Learning new technology or continuing to get comfortable with it
  • Fixing bugs and things that didn't show up properly on the screen
  • Designing the story page

Accomplishments that we're proud of

For one of us, it was our first hackathon ever, and seeing the design come to life was incredibly rewarding. Getting the experience was also very valuable.

Our tenacity and perseverance: despite the challenges, we made huge strides in our personal learning and the project’s development alike.

The connections made during this project: whether it was finding our fourth member through a silly team recruitment post, or strengthening our existing friendships, all four of us felt that this experience allowed us to meet some amazing people that we all would happily work with in the future.

What we learned

As previously stated, one team member had their first hackathon experience today, so the entire 12 hour duration was a lesson itself. Secondly, while comfortable with Figma, our designer felt they could have been more organized and efficient in a few areas, such as making better use of components to save time and maintain consistency. Another member of our team was strictly comfortable with frontend, so having to delve further into the backend development of this project, or even just becoming more acquainted with the concepts was a struggle at times.

What's next for teyvat.vn

If/when we have more time or resources, here are the things we would love to implement someday:

Responsive Design - due to time constraints, we were only able to make the site desktop-friendly. In the future and with more Figma experience, we hope to make teyvat.vn compatible on mobile devices too.

More Regions - Genshin’s roster is quite large and the cast spans several regions. If given the chance to work on a v2, we would love to expand the product to include more characters, not just the ones from Mondstadt.

More Backgrounds - Right now, the VN lets users pick 3 different backdrops from the game. If possible, we would like to someday experiment with the possibility of adding more, including some alternate universe related locations such as a university or a cafe, since fanfics can take place anywhere.
