Inspiration
We wanted to do something meaningful with all the extra time that we have during the COVID-19 pandemic. We thought that an app that helps the public with daily problems during this tough time would be something great to spend our time on, so we went with this idea.
What it does
The user will be able to determine if a location is too crowded in order to maintain social distancing using an address. Another feature will help to keep the user out of large crowds by notifying the user when there is a big change in the number of people near a person
How we built it
We built a Flask REST API backend and a React Native frontend
Challenges we ran into
We weren't able to get the frontend working so we switched between various frameworks, which took up most of the mobile development.
In the backend, we struggled to find a reliable data source.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to completely finish the backend. We are proud of how much we were able to accomplish in a short amount of time.
What we learned
Mobile development is way harder than it seems Also, documentation is gold
What's next for Social Distancing App
We plan on adding a web frontend for better ease of use and improving the backend performance.
