Inspiration

This year in 2021, there was a Pacific Northwest 2021 heatwave during summertime. Such an event is still rare or extremely rare in today’s climate, yet would be virtually impossible without human-caused climate change. As warming continues, it will become a lot less rare. Rapidly warming climate is bringing us into uncharted territory that has significant consequences for health, well-being, and livelihoods. Adaptation and mitigation are urgently needed to prepare societies for a very different future. Deforestation is the second largest top cause of climate change. One of the solutions is forest restoration to bring the nature ecosystem back to life.

What it does

TerraHero is a single platform that enables achieving two goals. It can be used to motivate users to actively participate in active forest restoration by tying with their personal health goals. User sets a health/work out goals and upon achieving them they donate/plant the trees on their choosing place/country to reward themself. In the end, users receive the Tree Certificate, which they can proudly share with their network. With this, the user is happy achieving their health goal and with the contribution to nature. With more tree plantations, nature can be closer to bringing ecosystem life back.

How we built it

HTML5, CSS, JavaScript

Challenges we ran into

The time difference between team members was found a bit challenging.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of together coming up with a creative idea that leverage user's motivation in doing personal health activity that ends up contributing to the community, and nature.

What we learned

We learned how to quickly pivot and scope down the larger, complex solution to the MVP version.

What's next for TerraHero

We are planning to develop a back-end for TerraHero and Gather the user workout activity from different devices such as fitbit.
