Inspiration

Looking for paper medical records and information has always been a hassle. Moving them online would make them much more secure and easier to find. One of our pieces of inspiration was from our parents having to fill out many medical forms but having to take the time to search for them. Another was that if you somehow forgot your medical documents or information, you would have the website to help you find what you need.

What it does

Instead of storing all medical records on paper, they will be stored online. MedManage is both a website and an app/program that acts as a file manager. It allows you to add normal and custom medical information to a cloud where you can access it anywhere and anytime. You can also search for medical information, providing easy access to knowledge wherever you are.

How we built it

Using HTML, CSS, and Javascript, we prototyped a website that has the functionality to store such medical information.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge we faced was the features we wanted to include on MedManage. Though we strived to provide our users with all the features they yearn for, we had to focus on the important medical information a person needs accessibility in most situations. Another challenge presented to us was storing the data in an efficient, but easily accessible way. The more users we incur, the more traffic that our storage faces. Hence, we were faced with the challenge of creating an effective storage system.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have completed an effective and viable prototype for our first hackathon. All of our group members lacked any experience on hackathons, but we did manage to overcome our personal obstacles and successfully complete the challenge. The website is also fully responsive and works on both computers and mobile devices.

What we learned

Our group explored the medical industry and all the ludicrous amount of forms associated with healthcare. We realized that filling out forms that are just in a different style is redundant. We analyzed data from several different sources to conclude that about 50% of patients struggle with maintaining their health records. That is an incredible amount! Hence, we decided that an app/website that assists managing healthcare forms and associated documents is a commodity in the modern wold.

A few of our group members who have little programming experience have also learned HTML, CSS, and Javascript, fundamentals for web development.

What's next for MedManage

The next step for the website would be improving accessibility. Our app/website is still a prototype so we are yet to add several features. We have the crucial foundation of the application constructed, but we want to further expand our ideas. We plan on including cloud/syncing storage and providing our users with an online pdf editing feature that allows them to edit their information on the website. We also may add our own search engine for health instead of using the WebMD search engine. All of these features would make MedManage a one-stop-shop for managing medicals. These features would help provide our users with a better interface and experience.

If the personal health management side is successful, we will also consider expanding to patient data management for healthcare institutions.
