Inspiration

The inspiration behind this game is that we have friends and/or cousins who struggle with dyslexia. We wanted to create a creative game for young children with reading challenges to practice short abstract words that are frequently encountered in reading.

What it does

This game helps those with dyslexia and/or spelling in general. This helps them with their common mistakes when they try to read and spell. The game also builds moral and self esteem as they grow more confident in their spelling and reading skills because of the fun and encouraging way of learning.

How we built it

We first planned out a couple options and chose this one in the end. We made this app in code.hs an online studio to code apps. Then we coded the screens layout and made ids for what each part of the code does. We just coded as we went on from there and used an open AI once to resolve an error we couldn’t figure out.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled to figure out how to make the computer speak the word because it kept giving us an error. We then used an open AI to ask the AI how to resolve this error.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of completing the app in the time frame given because we all have things to do outside of school. This is our first hackathon and that's a very exciting accomplishment for us.

What we learned

We learned how to code in code.org and how to make a computer speak to the user.

What's next for Telephone

Next for telephone we plan to add a vocab function to help students with vocabulary as well.
