Inspiration

Current wireless streaming technology of 2.4-5 GHz is slow and not able to keep up with rapid advancements in video formatting and graphics displays (4k+ technologies). Our project looks to demonstrate the capabilities of 60 GHz wireless communication as a way of video streaming and data transfer between devices. Our goal is to prove the usability of 60 GHz as a method of wireless streaming, and to use it to more efficiently allow for this transfer. Currently, the average internet speed in the United States is around 50 Mbps. With our project we hope to show that it is possible to increase these speeds to over 1 Gbps (20x faster). This would enable Blu-Ray movie downloads in around 1 minute (currently around 25 minutes), and 4k movie downloads in at most 15 minutes (currently around 5 - 6 hours). We hope that this technology advancement will improve the video streaming as well as other forms of communication.
