VERSE


Verse is an immersive music sharing solution that combines the music taste of multiple users by using a handheld device, allowing Verse to generate a playlist with integrated DJ transitions that conforms to everybody in the room. Verse provides a unique experience by utilizing a handheld NFC device to retrieve music data from users, making the process streamlined in comparison to other music sharing solutions that require contact information, a link, and other difficult intermediates. The ergonomic design of the handheld device provides an easy-to-hold, easy-to-carry experience that allows Verse to be held, mounted, or placed in an elegant manner, giving the host the ability to reap the benefits of Verse in a variety of social settings. Unlike other collaborative playlists, Verse utilizes GenAI to curate the playlist, and provides transitions based on the genre of the music, allowing the host to immerse themselves in their gathering in an unprecedented way.


The party host will go to a web app which will collect the top 10 songs of each party attendee and store them in the cache. Through the ChatGPT API, Verse will add songs with a similar genre or artist to the playlist. Verse will then organize the songs by valence, positive and negative emotion, and danceability, parameters gathered through the Spotify API. Party hosts can also kick party attendee’s for misbehavior such as spamming in order to facilitate the party’s mood. Unlike other competitors, party hosts have tools in order to curate a setlist for the room and have stronger control over the song queue and collaborators. When the party attendee taps their phone on our Verse device, the Spotify API is instantiated and the top ten songs are gathered. A NFC (near field communication) tag can wirelessly transfer the Verse URL to nearby devices with NFC readers through electromagnetic pulses. Compared to RFID (radio frequency identification), NFC can both transmit and receive data from nearby devices. Transmitting data such as URL links are used to seamlessly introduce Verse to users and, in a future iteration, receive data on user interactions with the web app. The NFC tag is highly durable and can function in a wide range of temperatures and humidity. However, it only transfers data on one side of the tag, can not pass through layers, and the phone must be directly placed on top. In the future, we could consider Bluetooth tags which can pair and send information across long distances and even through obstacles. This allows Verse to reach larger, more crowded parties where our NFC Verse device would not be as easy to access. Attendees may also input more songs into the queue and leave the party, which will get rid of only their songs.


Our NFC device’s design lends itself to frictionless song-sharing in order for users to live in the moment. The user simply has to tap their phone either on the NFC box or the NFC sphere and then their Spotify data can be shared. The NFC box was designed in Fusion 360 and FDM 3d printed using PLA plastic. Fusion 360 was used to create the two main components of the box, the base and the lid. The two pieces connect with tab inserts. The NFC tag is fastened on top to make sure all types of phones can utilize it easily. The box is designed to be able to mount on a wall. The final production model will be injection-molded for significant cost savings as 3D printing is inefficient at scale and injection molding is inefficient not at scale.


The NFC Sphere was designed similarly in Solidworks. The sphere is designed to be ergonomic for the user to pass around and hold. The design is very similar except it has a recess for the NFC tag on the top. It is also 3d printed out of PLA and will be injection molded in production. Customers will have the choice between buying the box and the sphere depending on what suits their needs best. Verse is an immersive music sharing platform aimed at individuals who value music to form connections with others by listening in groups that seamlessly retrieves and combines the music tastes of groups using an NFC-enabled device and acts as an AI DJ, providing an experience superior to current shared listening solutions that are overly complicated, lack AI technology, and don’t offer DJ features. Our competitive differentiation of our product is its ability to share music in a frictionless manner that only requires a single step. Additionally, our product uniquely utilizes ChatGPT AI in order to generate even more songs in a playlist that represents the combined music taste of a group. Additionally, the AI DJ feature also differentiates us from our competitors, allowing us to integrate blended transitions between the compiled list of songs. The numerous versatile features of the device set us apart from our competitors as Verse is able to accomplish the goals of multiple technologies in a single, efficient device.
