Taurite: Empowering Equality through Awareness Events

Inspiration

Participating in this hackathon sparked the idea of Taurite, a MERN web app centered around social equality. Taurite, inspired by the Maori word for equality, is more than just a web app; it's a catalyst for positive transformation. Through meaningful events, we amplify voices, spark conversations, and cultivate awareness for social issues that matter. Together, we strive for a world where equality reigns supreme.

What it does

Taurite enables users to search for social equality-based events in their location, connecting them to meaningful causes and issues they care about. Users can also create their own events, providing them with a powerful platform to raise awareness, inspire action, and drive change. Through Taurite, individuals and organizations can collaborate to elevate voices, foster empathy, and create a lasting impact on society.

How we built it

Taurite was crafted with passion and dedication using the MERN tech stack. MongoDB provided a robust database, while Express facilitated smooth server-side development. React enabled a dynamic user interface, and Node.js ensured seamless server management.

Challenges we ran into

The journey was not without its hurdles. Time constraints and external factors limited the inclusion of certain desired features and pages. However, these challenges further fueled my determination to continuously improve and expand the app in the future.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The journey of building Taurite taught me invaluable lessons in web development. I deepened my understanding of the MERN stack and honed my skills in crafting responsive and user-friendly interfaces. Additionally, I grasped the significance of brainstorming ideas and adapting to challenges.

What's next for Taurite

We are eager to introduce a new feature that allows users to create informative and insightful posts. These posts will serve as valuable resources, educating the community not only on social equality but also on various human rights and fundamental human values.

Recognizing the importance of building connections, we plan to implement a Links section within events and posts. Users will have the opportunity to share relevant links, leading to their Discord servers, social profiles, or other platforms where they can engage with like-minded individuals and create meaningful connections. By providing this space, we hope to facilitate a vibrant community where ideas are exchanged, collaborations are formed, and solidarity is fostered.
