Inspiration

The idea for TasteCraft was sparked by the everyday challenge of finding recipes that are both delicious and allergy-friendly. Recognizing the gap in existing culinary resources, we set out to create an app that not only accommodates various dietary restrictions but also celebrates the joy of cooking with personalized recipes.

What it does

TasteCraft is a recipe app tailored for people with food allergies and dietary preferences. It lets the user adjust recipes to his/her personal needs and wished by extending the broad HelloFresh Database. The user can specifiy allergies and overall preferences in the start up of the app. These preferences then influence each search. Furthermore recipes can be customized even more on a day to day basis to spontaneous likings and needs. This customized recipes are not just fetched out of a database but generated dynamically to be as flexible as possible. Our userfriendly app makes cooking accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

How we built it

We developed TasteCraft using mobile development technologies in swift. The frontend, designed for accessibility and ease of use, provides a seamless user experience across various devices. The backend, built on a fast performing server in Rust to ensure a fast and natural user experience.

Challenges we ran into

One of our major challenges was creating an algorithm that was as creative as possible, but also deterministic to a certain extend. This would allow the user to customize a recipe and come back at a later point at time, finding the previously generated recipe without AI generating a complete new recipe.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are particularly proud of developing an app that not only addresses a critical need but does so with a user-centric approach. Creating a platform that is both functional and enjoyable, while handling the intricacies of dietary needs, stands as our major achievement.

What we learned

This project deepened our understanding of dietary needs and the importance of inclusive design in app development. We gained valuable insights into user experience, data management, and fast and responsive server development.

What's next for TasteCraft

Looking ahead, we aim to expand TasteCraft's features with an users inventory. Here the user can specify the items he/she has at home. Our algorithmn would then try to include those items in the recipes as far as possible. We also plan to enhance the app's social features, allowing users to share their opinion on creations and sharing tips for preparation, fostering a community of health-conscious food enthusiasts
