This is an android app project that I have participated at the "Tabs on Tallahassee" hackathon organized by the Orlando Sentinel on 1/16/2016. It is still an ongoing project, anyone wanting to participate is more than welcome.

The task was: "Using the Tabs on Tallahassee API, build a digital tool that makes data from the Florida House and/or Senate easier to access and that will help everyday citizens find legislation that matters to them."

The two D.C.-based developers who built the API, James Turk and Erin Braswell, also participated in the event.

Tabs on Tallahassee, powered by the Orlando Sentinel, gives you access to the actions of Florida’s legislature. Keep track of your representative or senator and keep tabs on legislation about topics and places that matter to you. You can find the latest political news and unfiltered actions of the legislature here in one stop.

News organizations across the state can access a free data feed of legislative actions to build their own tools to shine a brighter light on actions of the legislature.

Tabs on Tallahassee was made possible in part by a $35,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to create a database of voting records of Florida’s legislators.

Project: Name: TabsOnTally

Idea: Shortly said the main idea would be user engagement. It will present the latest list of bills to the user with the votes of their county legislator. The user can then read up on the bill and can contact their legislator from the app and inquire about the vote the legislator has made.

Platform: Android and IOS. Currently only the code base for the Android version is available. I am planning on deploying a demo version of the app to the app store in the near future.
