Inspiration
We were inspired by media that formulated creative ways in teaching children while also letting them have a little fun. We wanted to do our own spin on this
What it does
It's basically Tetris but you have to use spell out words to destroy the pieces. Words you missed will be showcased after the game is over!
How we built it
We built it with React, Node, and the OpenAI API.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a lot of challenges. We ran into challenges regarding having to make the fail condition. we wanted to have the loose condition be when you fill up a column but the issue was that the code would detect falling pieces that happened to pass by that row and would result in a game over. Took a lot of thinking but we finally found way to get around it (which was by adding a 2 second interval per scan)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
we were proud of getting the game to work with the large dictionary and we were also proud in getting our leader board as well as the merging of our work that we decided to separately (long story but it took alot of working around JSON). Also, we were proud about adding the AI feature that displays words and their definitions at the end of the round.
What we learned
We learned that everything is harder with react. In all seriousness though, we found the experience worth-while. I've definitely learned about web-development and it actually happened to be the one thing we loathed learning but we're glad we did
What's next for syntrix
We want to actually get kids to play test our game and see what they think. Its always good to know your audience. Hopefully we can build on that after wards
