Millions of people worldwide face significant barriers to healthcare, from unavailable medications to inaccessible diagnostic tests. Existing healthcare systems are often underfunded, fragmented, or simply out of reach. Symedon bridges this gap by providing a multilingual, AI-powered healthcare platform that empowers users to seek medical guidance regardless of location. Users can input symptoms via text or speech, receive AI-assisted preliminary diagnoses, and connect with licensed doctors for professional review. Beyond individual care, Symedon analyzes regional medical data to identify systemic healthcare gaps—such as shortages of critical medicines or diagnostic tools. These insights help UN and NGO relief efforts distribute resources more effectively, ensuring aid reaches the communities that need it most. Inspired by the Greek phrase meaning “healing together,” Symedon is built on the belief that access to healthcare should not depend on geography or privilege.

How we built it

Symedon is deployed on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and leverages a range of AI and cloud technologies:

  1. Gemini AI – Enables speech-to-text processing and multilingual support, making healthcare accessible across language barriers
  2. Google Cloud & Firebase – Securely stores user data with real-time updates and anonymization for privacy compliance
  3. Vertex AI – Powers AI-driven doctor-patient matching and assists in initial symptom analysis
  4. Vector Databases (VDB) – Helps improve model accuracy and capture the unique healthcare needs of marginalized communities.

Challenges we faced

🚧 Developing a Reliable RAG-Based System – Ensuring AI-driven medical suggestions are grounded in trusted sources. 🌍 Multilingual Support – Building an accurate TTS/STT (Text-to-Speech / Speech-to-Text) system to handle diverse languages and dialects. 🔗 Seamless Firebase & Vector Database Integration – Managing real-time updates and secure data access while keeping the platform scalable.
