Inspiration
SyllaBuddy was born in the chaos that all college students experience. With multiple syllabi to keep track of, deadlines to meet, and grades to be calculated manually through complex weight systems, we realized that students needed a better and easier way of organizing their academic lives. We envisioned creating an AI-powered assistant that takes bulky syllabi and turns them into accurate, actionable calendars while tracking grades and upcoming events, all in one place.
What it does
SyllaBuddy is an AI-powered academic planner that turns messy syllabi into clear, personalized schedules. Just upload your class plan, and it auto-generates your semester timeline, calculates your grades based on real assignment weights, and even alerts you about upcoming tests and deadlines. Moreover, everything is editable in case the AI gets something wrong.
Challenges we ran into
One of the most significant challenges was handling the variation of syllabus formats—some are nicely organized, others not. We also needed to ensure that our grade-tracking system could support multiple weight schemes. Editing and making the web fault-proof without overwhelming the user was a work of deliberate design decisions. Along the process, we discovered the importance of optimizing AI automation with different syllabus styles.

Next steps include:
- Mobile app support for on-the-go schedule access
- Smart study reminders and productivity tips based on upcoming deadlines
- Calendar integration with Google Calendar or Outlook
- User accounts so students can save and access their schedules across devices
