Inspiration

The inspiration for this project is that it is common for people to have negative feelings when they spend money, and even the thought of having to save money for needs stresses them out. The solution we thought that could remedy this would be approaching this the unconventional way: splurging. We wanted to reinforce positivity in users for treating themselves and others with gifts, dates, and other wants after working hard for earning their finances. Through encouraging users to spend more, we want to help them feel more rewarded by encouraging them to spend their surplus money. Not only does this make spending money more rewarding, it also encourages users to balance both spending and saving, empowering their financial ability to understand the importance of balance between a hardworking life and achieving their desires.

What it does

It is a mobile app that has a financial assessment quiz for users to help them identify, organize, and manage their budgeting for needs and wants based on their current financial health and surplus money. The app helps them balance a healthy lifestyle of monitoring their budgets for their needs while achieving a splurging experience with their surplus money. Based on their financial health, the app will integrate a feature where it offers recommended dates and treats for users to splurge in.

How we built it

Currently this is a proof-of-concept product. No front-end and back-end development tools were used. Figma was the primary tool for creating the mockups for Sweet Splurge.

Challenges we ran into

A challenge we ran into was figuring out the user flow. How should we try to shorten financial assessments while trying to make it engaging.

We're proud for coming up with a simple idea that caters to our users and helping them achieve the greatest satisfaction in life with their finances.

What we learned

We've learned more about how empathizing with users helped us generate the idea.
