Our website, Sustainable Seattle, promotes sustainability, waste management awareness, and reduction of carbon emissions in hopes of positively benefiting the environment. The homepage uses the Ambee open-source API to show the real-time air quality in Seattle. On the Got Waste? page, our website contains an interactive map where users can view different disposal and waste management resources in the city of Seattle. As users scroll down on the Got Waste Page, they can play our interactive trash sorting game. This game was custom-built in Scratch by our team and embedded into our website in order to engage a more broad audience of kids. Users can also calculate their carbon footprint on our website by entering basic information about their lifestyle choices. The website then takes in the information and calculates the carbon footprint using a custom-coded formula. Users can navigate to our learn more page to receive information to help them on their journey to a more sustainable lifestyle. Users are greeted with suggestions such as using renewable energy sources, being conscious about their modes of transportation, and how to optimize their daily energy usage. Users can click to read more about the suggestions, which navigates them to corresponding websites. Next, users see examples of demonstrations on climate protests, such as posters, signs, and slogans to inform about how they can take affirmative action. Finally, users are presented with various volunteering and outreach organizations and their missions toward sustainability. Users can click the link under an organization to direct them to their respective websites. Users can navigate to our community page to explore connections within Seattle’s environmentally conscious community. This page features a forum where users can exchange contact information, volunteer opportunities, and sustainable shops. Below we have included social media posts from popular organizations aiming to spread awareness about efforts toward environmental sustainability.
