Sustainable Genesis

Inspiration

A family in Malawi struggling to get over poverty due to lack of sufficient energy and food. So identifying that compost can be used to produce energy was one of the inspiration to solve similar problems in South Africa.

What it does

It collects bio waste and composes energy in a form of bio gas which will be used as energy to cook and heat up spaces. The left compost will be sold to provide extra money for those in need.

How we built it

We designed the product and had yo manufacturer it component by component due to its way of producing the energy, so having to use recyclable materials at a fair price had to be considered.

Challenges we ran into

Making sure the bin isn’t leaking any dangerous gases in the house. The hygiene had to be considered, to avoid any healthy risks and germs.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Having a product that is focused more on providing a solution for the current challenges the country is having, especially when we all face the challenges that affects all that classes in the society.

What we learned

Bio energy needs to be sustainable since it requires more resources to produce a questionable amount of energy for a specific time. This meant that research and serious calculations had to be made, to make sure the gas is controlled and safe for use.

What's next for Sustainable Genesis

Creating a sustainable footprint for the upcoming young generation, in hopes of creating a better future for the generations to come.

Insight

Biogas offers substantial opportunity for employment throughout the value chain.–from the production and harvesting of feedstock, to the production, construction and/or installation and maintenance of the biogas digester unit, or the resale of produced biogas. Globally, the production and use of biogas provided some 333,000 jobs in 2015.
