Schonfeld Challenge - Honorable Mention
Challenge
Schonfeld Sustainability Challenge
Help us visualize our stock picks through the lens of sustainability - we'd like to create a database/platform through which our investment teams can view the overall sustainability of companies on the S&P 500. How you do this is up to you, but we want to see creativity- particularly in how you develop your sustainability scales, what factors you see as important in contributing to an overall "score", and how you present your findings.

Inspiration
The inspiration for our team when brainstorming a concept came from the Schonfeld hacker challenge. We had initially wanted to create something that had ethical benefits, but we had not found our idea until the challenge was disclosed.
What it does
Sustain.io is an all-in-one public company analysis tool. Taking into account different sustainable practices companies typically participate in, we can visually compare companies against an industry benchmark. This allows the average investor to make an educated decision regarding their investment's sustainability.
How we built it
We built Sustain.io using React, MongoDB, Node.JS, and Express.JS as our main tech stack.
Challenges we ran into
We had an incredibly hard time sourcing our data, as a vast majority of company data is behind a paywall. This forced us to do manual in-depth research about a large number of companies, causing us to fall behind in technical parts of our project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to say that our data is unbiased, accurate, and responsibly sourced. We think the way we display company disparity makes it easy for anyone at any level of investing to understand.
What we learned
We learned that information that should be public is oftentimes not. Companies have public relations teams to try and sugarcoat their sustainability efforts, making it nearly impossible for the average person to find information.
What's next for Sustain.io
Sustain.io has the capability of scalability, as if we had access to paid APIs, we could get a much larger dataset and more accurate benchmark.
