How we built it

We built Surplus as a responsive web app using React, Shadcn UI, and Supabase to handle authentication, data, and real-time updates.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing a realistic food rescue workflow with a simple enough system to build in a short hackathon timeframe was our biggest challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that we delivered a working end-to-end flow from restaurant posting to volunteer delivery with visible community impact metrics.

What we learned

We learned that simplifying the product to its core workflow leads to faster development and a clearer, stronger demo.

What's next for Surplus

Next, we plan to onboard food shelters directly, add delivery verification, and expand the platform to more local communities.
