Inspiration
The global pandemic has not been treating anyone well, we have been forced to socially distance ourselves, and that greatly impacted our summer... We, Summer Connecter want to help people once again connect and enjoy summertime!!!!
What it does
Our website enables users to meet people who share their interests and help organize summer activities. On the first page, the user will sign up for an account or log in. Then they are brought to the main lobby, with a chatroom for general conversation which every user can chat in about anything they want. From there, users can choose from a variety of chatrooms that suit their interests.
How we built it
We used GitHub and discord to collaborate and communicate with each others. We set up the backend, this includes a PostgreSQL database, flask routes, socket io handlers on both the server end and client. While this was happening, we were also designing the frontend logic and presentation.
Challenges we ran into
Everything was relatively new to both of us, especially CSS, it gave us a hard time as one of us is a pure backend developer and the other has just started off coding...
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This was Lee's first fully completed and functional hackathon project plus this was his first time applying his recently learned Socket.io and PostgreSQL knowledge successfully. This is Xavier's first hackathon, and he came in with very little knowledge of front end development but was able to learn CSS and HTML within the span of one day.
What we learned
We learned that teamwork is the best tool ever, no matter how good a group's coding skill is, if you cannot communicate, you'll just end up wasting effort.
What's next for Summer_Connecter
We are planning to use Radar.io to locate users and match them. Also, designing better visuals for the front end.
