Inspiration
Despite the myriad of educational tools in the market, many struggle with kickstarting the learning process. As students, we felt that getting the ball rolling was often the most difficult part. In this context, we created Summari. Summari is an AI-driven website that creates personalized study schedules using space repetition from a variety of educational materials for user-specific learning objectives. By eliminating preliminary steps to studying, such as gathering and organizing lectures, we hope to streamline users' study sessions.
What it does
Summari is an educational tool that enables users to tackle larger user-specific problems by breaking them into smaller, manageable pieces. Summari allows users to upload lectures, slideshows, and personal notes to double-check their understanding with abstractive output from AI, all in one centralized app. Seamless integrations of study features such as keywords and summaries supercharge study sessions according to the forgetting curve, personally curated by user input.
How we built it
We utilized python flask to integrate AI into our website. Deployed pipeline of natural language processing models and a forgetting curve detector. Stylized the website with HTML, CSS & JS.
Challenges we ran into
Working with different local environments (window/mac/venv) Switching between working on machine learning and working on UI/UX was disorienting Correctly implement Flask with HTML (jinja2)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Completing our first hackathon, learning a lot! Creating something we could use in our own lives.
What we learned
New programming Languages/frameworks - Flask OOP, APIs, AI
What's next for Summari
In future iterations of Summari, we hope to develop a more compatible UI and more advanced studying features, such as flashcards and mnemonics.
