💡 Inspiration

Online shopping often leaves people wondering how clothes will look on them. We wanted to break down the barriers of fashion discovery and make trying on global styles as easy as clicking a button. StyleIt was born from the idea of merging technology and creativity to revolutionize fashion exploration. 🌍👗💻

✨ What it does

StyleIt lets users download clothing images from anywhere online and virtually “try them on” instantly. With just a few clicks, you can explore global fashion trends, mix and match outfits, and see how they fit—all from the comfort of your home. 🪞📲

🔧 How we built it

This project has a lot of moving parts to create the final product. Users can start by browsing our amazing collection of brands and clothes, or import their choices and styles. Our servers will then process and prepare these images so users can view them properly and without issue. After this data is stored in MongoDB, users can then use our intuitive front-end to select which items they want to add to their bag to view. Once all items are chosen users can then finally view all items on themselves. Using Mediapipe and some calculations, users can then view the scaled clothing on themselves from any angle, and at any distance. 😁

🚧 Challenges we ran into

  • Achieving smooth and seamless overlays without delays and stutters.
  • Handling variations in image quality and lighting from online sources where we could still properly style everything.
  • Integrating multiple different servers and APIs within the short time frame of a hackathon.
  • Keeping maintainable code.

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully developing an impressive and functional prototype in a limited time.
  • Ensuring the user experience was as clean as possible without any room for error.
  • Creating an accessible tool that’s fun and useful for people globally.
  • Collaborating effectively as a team to merge technical and creative elements.

📚 What we learned

  • How to optimize our program and API's for optimal processing speeds.
  • The challenges of working with user-generated content.
  • The importance of UI/UX design in creating an engaging user experience.
  • How to balance creativity and feasibility during rapid prototyping.

🚀 What’s next for StyleIt

  • Improving fit accuracy with 3D modelling techniques.
  • Expanding the platform to support accessories and makeup try-ons.
  • Partnering with e-commerce platforms for direct integration.
  • Creating a community feature where users can share and rate outfit combinations.
  • Developing a mobile app for an even more seamless experience. 📱🎉
