Inspiration
As students, we know just how difficult school can be. Tutoring helps, but it can be hard to find a tutor you can really connect with. Our goal with StudyBuddy was to help students find the perfect tutors to guide them to success in every class.
What it does
StudyBuddy connects students and tutors based on enrollment in courses, availability, and pricing preferences. Individuals can message each other through the site to introduce themselves and plan study sessions.
How we built it
StudyBuddy was developed using a combination of react.js, HTML5 and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we faced with this project was a collective lack of experience. Our team consists of college freshmen with programming experience ranging from intermediate to none. StudyBuddy was mainly developing using react.js, which none of our members had ever used prior to this event. Additionally, this was our team's first hackathon, so none of us really knew what to expect.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our team is extremely proud to have developed a functioning web application despite having no prior experience in this area. We learned a plethora of new skills in the process that we can't wait to hone.
What we learned
Through working on this project, our team learned a considerable amount about web development, JavaScript and web interactivity, user experience, and working as a team.
What's next for StudyBuddy
We would love to continue developing StudyBuddy to improve the user experience. We plan to add more features, such as scheduling study sessions with a tutor through the app and group chats for students and tutors in certain classes. We hope that students all over the nation can one day use StudyBuddy to reach academic excellence.
