Inspiration
We were inspired by the popularity of "study with me" videos on Youtube and Twitch. Many people find it comforting/inspiring/motivational to feel like they are studying or working at the same time as another individual.
What it does
Study With Me connects people who are looking to work quietly with another. Users can make a "table", where other users may join and leave at will - resembling that of share tables in libraries. We included a Pomodoro Timer to help users get work done while promoting rest time to stretch and socialize. During break intervals, users can access the chat function to check-in with the other people at their table. In lieu of making a connection with fellow students or co-workers in person, we hope that Study With Me can help isolated individuals feel connected in their struggle.
How we built it
We focused on building a high-fidelity prototype in Figma and an MVP using HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
Challenges we ran into
This was our first time using Figma so there was a lot of trial and error. We also felt we needed to address the many concerns associated with live streaming video as we wanted to create a product where our users can feel safe. Lastly, there was a lot of front-end and back-end code to complete to realize our vision.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of the design he implemented in our Figma prototype. We are also proud to have figured out a new tool to use for future projects. We are also proud of how thorough we thought our application through as solely 2 people.
What we learned
We learned how to to use Figma to make lofi and hifi prototypes which included actions in addition to the aesthetics. We learned how to embed a video into a webpage and the APIs we could have used to implement streaming though we did not get to it.
What's next for Study With Me
The next step would be to fully implement the features we mapped out in our Figma prototype: Spotify integration, live streaming, instant messaging and a database to store our users.
