We have all struggled to find open spaces to study across Pitt's campus, making it one of the most frustrating parts of being a student. We believe this app would help make the process of finding a study space more streamlined and easy.
The app enables you to see what time(s) rooms in buildings across the campus are open for students to use to study and lets you select a time to reserve.
We built this app by following a tutorial for Xcode that builds a Landmark app and made changes to fit our needs for this idea.
None of us were very familiar with Xcode or Swift before this weekend, so we all had to try to learn it to complete this project. Another challenge was figuring out how to delegate work. In the beginning, we didn't really know how to split up the project work since our entire idea hadn't come together yet, so we definitely weren't as efficient as we could've been from the get-go.
As a whole, we are very proud of this project because of how challenging it was for us, and because of how passionate we are about the idea behind it. Specifically, though, we are proud of the map feature and the little Pitt logo because those were some things that were very glitchy at first.
Through this project, we learned that Xcode is a really great tool for app development, and we learned how to code with the Swift language.
All three of us genuinely wish an app like this existed for Pitt students, so we may continue working on this to see if that could become a reality.
