Inspiration

Study.io draws inspiration from nostalgic Windows XP and Frutiger Aero aesthetics, blending productivity tools with engaging visuals to make studying more enjoyable and gamified.

What it does

Study.io is a study timer that gamifies the Pomodoro technique. It features pause, reset, and session tracking, along with a leaderboard for social engagement and a bonus clicker toy for added fun.

How we built it

We used React for the frontend, incorporating SCSS for styling to achieve the retro aesthetic. Firebase handles user authentication and database management for tracking leaderboard stats.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing functionality and aesthetics was a challenge, especially designing intuitive yet retro-inspired UI elements. Implementing real-time leaderboard updates via Firebase required debugging.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of creating a fully functional and visually appealing study timer that combines productivity with nostalgia. Integrating Firebase authentication and real-time leaderboards was a key success.

What we learned

We learned how to optimize Firebase for authentication and database functions, the importance of responsive design, and how to blend creative design elements with functional app features.

What's next for Study.io

Future plans include enhancing leaderboard features, adding more gamified elements, introducing rewards for study milestones, and optimizing performance for larger user bases
