Inspiration

Who doesn't love a study buddy?

Someone who can work with you, not against you, to bring your academic knowledge to the highest level. Our project is exactly what you need to bring your grades up and make your life so much easier!

What it does

What's the subject you want to learn about? Just type it in and BOOM you'll be absolutely inundated with YouTube video recommendations, exams examples, and other study materials. What's more, a wonderful AI helper will give you a brief explanation of that subject on the side.

How we built it

The front-end is an HTML page brought to life by CSS and Javascript. Meanwhile, the back-end is powered by wonderful Python code that calls a few APIs for the videos and study materials, and runs a quantized Deepseek-R1 model through calls to Ollama.

Challenges we ran into

No worthy feat is ever accomplished without challenges. The biggest one for us was bringing all of these separate pieces together.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are ecstatic that our Study Buddy was completed within the time period. Frankly, this tool is something we intend to use personally! So the completion itself is a great accomplishment. Moreover, the learning process for each group member was an amazing experience that will undoubtedly help us in our future endeavours. This learning process, hightened our abilities in HTML/CS/JS as well as Python, API calls, and the use of Generative AI in personal projects.

What's next for Study Buddy

Study Buddy might need some fine tuning in the future, maybe a few extra features. But its future looks bright. At the very least, we'll be using it as our own personal study buddy. We also want to create a login and signup system so that users can track their progress when learning subjects. This will allow them to asses deficiencies and correct them. Additionally we would like to add a feature allowing users to specify what school they go to, ensuring they receive only content relevant to them.
