Inspiration 💡
We both don't have cars and rely on finding rides for traveling. Current websites for college students to find transportation like Facebook group-chats prove to be cluttered and not easy to use. We thought we could do better and make an easier website for Students to use.
What it does 💻
Student Rides is accessible to students through a public calendar listing upcoming rides that students can click into and contact the driver for more information. To post a ride, the user must log in, and then they may list key information such as departure date and time, seats available, cost for the gas money/service, destination, and contact information. Posts can be removed only by the author through authentication.
How we built it 🛠️
We used React, JavaScript, and Firestore
Challenges we ran into 🛑
Challenges we ran into was merging code, learning React, formulating the MVP, Firestore Realtime Database, especially authentication. There were new topics and to tackle them, required a learning curve, watching many YouTube videos, and getting debugging help from the lovely mentors.
Accomplishments that we're proud of 💪
Accomplishments that we're proud of was getting the pop-up to work, designing the layout of the website, and getting the website to function with all its working parts.
What we learned 🧠
GitHub, React hooks, what it is like to work in a team environment.
