Inspiration
School teachers sometimes control their class using different websites for different functions of the class. For example, we would go to a different website to turn in tests, and another website to turn in "in-class assignments" or homework. Using this calculator allows students to easily access their current grade and their necessary score to get their desired grade.
What it does
Using percentages to find the weight of the type assignment allows the user to input their past assignment grades to see their current grade and what percent they need to get in their Final in order to get the grade they desire.
How we built it
We used some beginning layout code for JavaScript since we are only using Replit.com at the moment. Using Replit made the process a lot smoother and faster since we were able to see the layout straight from the same page.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest problem that we ran into was how we wanted our layout to be. Both having some JavaScript experience made for our planning to be a lot harder since we had different ways we wanted our website to look. Whether it was choosing the background color or the title of the project, we ended up agreeing and moving the project along to get it completed in time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It was our first time working on a same project. We were also working on it simultaneously which was pretty cool since we were working a lot faster.
What we learned
We learned that it is okay to disagree on aspects of the project because it just means we both care and want to see the best possible outcome. With that said, we must also compromise and develop a code that we are both satisfied and proud of.
What's next for Student Final Grade Calculator
If given more time, we would develop some extra cool features of the calculator such as extra credit assignments and possibly detecting what grade the user needs to get if the class grade is curved.
