What it does

Lights Out! is a gamified surprise! One moment, you'll see everything on-screen. Another moment, it appears the lights are out. The screen has been entirely dimmed to black! A community member must have turned it off... Only your mouse illuminates a small area. Use it, and hurry! Find the switch!

StreamAlertsTV is a customizable alert system designed for Twitch creators! Notifications, such as new followers, subscribers, and cheers, can be displayed through quirky objects, epic VFX, and flashy animations. StreamAlertsTV is set to release in November 2024. For the hackathon, we included Lights Out! to enhance interactivity through gamification, in addition to the alerts.

Inspiration

Seeing Twitch streamers, like CodeMiko and DoigSwift, use game engines to transform their streams with immersive, interactive experiences inspired us to develop similar possibilities for more creators. With Lights Out! by StreamAlertsTV, we have successfully developed a user-friendly version that allows creators to boost engagement and interaction with their communities in a fun and accessible way.

Entertaining

Even a single community member can interact and impact your gameplay experience. Knowing this can happen at any moment, you start playing your games differently as a creator. You look for places to stay safe in case the lights go out! Until you forget about it, and that's when they get you!

Clip impactful moments with Lights Out! Our initial results demonstrate impressive performance with vertical shorts, made effortless using the new Twitch Clip Manager, which enhances your channel’s discoverability.

Customize

You control the chaos! Adjust the experience based on your preferences, such as the number of points, cooldown, and max use per viewer. Lights Out! interactive opportunities bring a new level of gamification for the community and the creator.

Monetize

Twitch Extensions are an awesome way to connect with your community. We built Screen Alerts to show your viewers that they can directly influence what happens on your screen, making their impact part of the action. How we built it

We've used a combination of Tauri (Rust) + NextJS for the application, and Blender + Unity for the overlay.

Challenges we ran into

Our goals remain to make many things customizable and allow every creator to enhance their stream as they desire. In a 3D world, with a mix of physic-based alerts and gamifications, this adds a lot of complexity and edge cases.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a customizable app that manages to stay intuitive. The potential we discovered with the layering techniques ignites our ambition to produce more original content for creators who love interaction with their community!

What's Next for Lights Out! by StreamAlertsTV

• Update Lights Out! with multiple variations, almost like a short escape room experience.
• Add Christmas content 🎄🎅🏻
• Continue adding new Twitch features to StreamAlertsTV (shared chat, raids, hype trains and hopefully power-ups)
• Expand the Twitch Extension Screen Alerts:
  • Personalize settings such as cooldowns
  • Add disruptive alerts like Smoke Bombs
  • More interactive games

Next year we are partnering with indie game developer Business Goose Studios, StreamAlertsTV is set to introduce gamification for Raids in their first collaborative project: Thwack 'n' Whack, featuring Shared Chat capabilities! Production kicks off in January 2025.
