Inspo

This idea came from one of our team members (who will remain unnamed), who nearly lost 30% of their entire stock portfolio during the whole Elon and Trump hype at Christmas 2024. They bought Tesla at its peak ($420/share), convinced it was the golden ticket, and two months later, it crashed ($222/share). That moment made us realize how many beginner investors jump into hype without really understanding why a stock moves. We wanted to build something that helps people cut through the noise and make smarter investment decisions.

What it does

1) User types a stock (& picks a timeframe)

  • StockExplain crawls latest live news, filings, Reddit, X, and social media chatter using Bright Data.
  • Reka AI connects the dots — reading emotions, detecting trends, and spotting narratives before they peak.

2) User sees summarized reports, sentiments, hype, and speculation on why it moved.

  • You don’t just see graphs and charts
  • You see the real story behind them
  • whether it’s hype, sentiment, or solid fundamentals

How we built it

We connected Bright Data’s real-time web access with Reka’s language reasoning.
Bright Data gives us fresh, verified, multi-source data, while Reka turns that raw text into structured insights like sentiment, event type, and cause.

Our backend ranks the strongest “signals,” filters out noise, and generates an easy-to-read summary card with live source links and confidence scores based on the time frame you choose. The frontend displays it like a mini market dashboard with price movement, a quick sentiment bar, and the top three reasons why the stock changed.

Challenges we ran into

  • The Wi-Fi at the venue was a challenge, and we only had about 12 hours of real build time
  • Web data is messy, headlines conflict, rumors spread fast, and financial language is tricky.
  • Getting Reka to explain why a stock moved instead of just repeating news took a lot of tuning
  • Crawling multiple live sites fast enough for a real-time demo pushed our pipeline’s speed and reliability

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built an AI that thinks like an analyst but talks like a friend.
In under 48 hours, our prototype successfully combined Bright Data’s live crawl with Reka’s reasoning to explain real-time market moves in a way anyone can understand.
Finance finally felt simple, clear, and human.

What we learned

Even the smartest AI is blind without live data. Bright Data gave our agent sight, and Reka gave it intelligence. Together, they turned chaos into clarity.

While building, we kept refining our idea, asking how AI could actually make finance understandable. Stocks don’t move only because of numbers — they move because of people, hype, and unpredictable narratives. A viral tweet, a PR spin, or even a CEO showing up at a concert can shake markets. Context matters, and we learned how to capture that.

We also learned how powerful it feels when complex information becomes simple and empowering.

What's next for StockExplain

  • Improve crawling speed to shorten wait time
  • Build a stronger verification system to find the most relevant and credible data
  • Expand to track trending tickers automatically and send push alerts like “Why NVDA is up 5% today”
  • Create a beginner-friendly mobile app for real-time explanations
  • Keep moving toward our long-term goal: the world’s first AI-powered financial explainer that helps anyone, not just pros, understand the market in seconds
