Inspiration
None of us students have the knowledge, time, or information to trade stocks; however, our congressional representatives do. With this in mind we looked for a way to use their skills to our advantage.
What it does
Using real time information, our platform allows you to follow and trade like the congressional representative of your choice. Using public data, we allow you to sit back and let the people running this country run your finances.
How we built it
Using react native we were able to make a mobile platform which connects with an API that gives us information on when and how congressional representatives trade.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges we ran into is that these trades are not recorded immediately. Members of congress have up to 45 days to report their trades so more often than not these trades are delayed.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how we were able to digest this information and turn it into a platform that makes sense to your average trader.
What we learned
We learned that javascript still sucks but is necessary for many projects like this.
What's next for Stock Act
We want to implement real time trading with brokerages and other api's like alpaca which allow for more than paper-trading to occur.
