Inspiration

Carbon emissions are at an all time high, with passenger vehicles accounting for more than 60% of CO2 emissions from road transport. Step by Step aims to educate youth about the benefits of choosing green transportation methods, and incentivize choosing these options.

What it does

Step by Step automatically logs your steps and trips, calculating the money you saved by taking public transit, the carbon emissions you conserved, as well as the calories you burned by walking. You can also create groups with your friends to encourage friendly competition.

How we built it

First we prototyped the UX and UI on AdobeXD. Afterwards, all four of us worked to code in HTML, css and javascript to make the app/website.

Challenges we ran into

Initially we tried to code in Swift on Xcode, then switched to React on ReactNative for a few hours. Unfortunately, we ran into many technical issues in proceeding with actual execution so we decide to simulate the app through a website. Although it is technically an website, it simulates the functionality of an app on a smartphone.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Collaborating to fully prototype an app that effectively fosters healthy and sustainable transportation habits.

What we learned

Some of us prototyped an app in HTML/CSS for the first time, others explored app design. We're most proud of the fact that we managed to work together to realize our concept!
