STEM Escape Room - "Math Quest Escape Room"

Inspiration

The inspiration behind Math Quest Escape Room stems from our passion for STEM education and the desire to make learning mathematics an exciting and interactive experience. We wanted to bridge the gap between fun and learning by creating a game that challenges players’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

What it does

Math Quest Escape Room is an interactive STEM-focused game where players solve mathematical puzzles to progress through rooms. The game includes:

  • Unique challenges like algebra, geometry, and probability puzzles.
  • Adaptive difficulty levels to engage players of all skill levels.
  • A hint system for when players are stuck.
  • Real-time progress tracking and leaderboards to inspire friendly competition.

How we built it

We used modern web development tools and frameworks to create this engaging game:

  • Frontend: Built using React, TypeScript, and Vite for a fast and responsive user interface.
  • Styling: Tailwind CSS and shadcn/ui for a visually appealing design.
  • Animations: Framer Motion to add dynamic transitions and effects.
  • Notifications: Sonner for seamless notifications during gameplay.
  • Game Logic: Carefully crafted mathematical puzzles with logic-driven solutions.

Challenges we ran into

  • Designing puzzles that were both challenging and enjoyable for a wide range of players.
  • Balancing the difficulty curve to ensure a smooth progression for users of all skill levels.
  • Integrating adaptive hint systems without disrupting the game’s immersive experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully creating an educational game that makes learning math fun and engaging.
  • Developing a seamless hint system that aids players without giving away the solutions.
  • Crafting a visually appealing interface with smooth animations and responsive design.

What we learned

  • The importance of user feedback in designing puzzles that are both challenging and rewarding.
  • Advanced techniques in React and TypeScript to optimize performance.
  • How to create engaging animations and transitions using Framer Motion.
  • The value of teamwork in bringing a creative idea to life.

What's next for STEM Escape Room

  • Adding more rooms and expanding the variety of mathematical challenges.
  • Introducing multiplayer mode for collaborative problem-solving.
  • Building a mobile version to make the game accessible on all platforms.
  • Partnering with educators to incorporate Math Quest Escape Room into classrooms as a fun learning tool.
