🧠 Inspiration
Startup X-Ray was born out of frustration. Before meetings with startup founders or recruiters, I’d spend 15+ minutes scrambling through LinkedIn, Crunchbase, blogs, and press releases—just to figure out what a company actually does.
I wanted a tool that could instantly generate a VC-style breakdown without opening five tabs. What started as a personal tool turned out to solve a common problem—over 500 users have since adopted it for founder meetings, interviews, and investment research.
🚀 What It Does
Startup X-Ray gives you instant, structured insights into any startup or founder—just by typing a name. It provides:
- Bullet-point summary of the product
- Visualizations Market opportunity and traction
- Team highlights
- Competitors and potential risks
It replaces 15 minutes of scattered research with a clean, 1-minute scan.
🛠 How I Built It
- Frontend: Next.js with Tailwind CSS for a sleek, fast UI
- Backend: Perplexity Sonar API for real-time web search and summarization
- Deployment: Vercel, with a custom domain
🧱 Challenges I Ran Into
- Live API handling: Managing response time and rate limits under tight demo conditions
- Content formatting: Ensuring the summaries came out readable and consistent
- Usefulness Talking with initial users, people believed that text itself is not as useful, thus I added visualizations for this.
🏆 Accomplishments That I Proud Of
- Over 500 real users with only spread of mouth
📚 What I Learned
- Perplexity Sonar is incredibly powerful for real-time summarization and reasoning
- Users don’t always use your product how you expect—but that’s a good thing
- Simplicity wins: one input field and fast output beats fancy features when you’re solving a real pain point
🔮 What's Next for Startup X-Ray
- Better visualizations after user interviews
- Follow startups and receive alerts on major updates
- Collaboration tools so VCs and hiring teams can annotate and share insights
Built With
- nextjs
- perplexity
- supabase
