Interest in strategy games, space habitation, and civilization games.

What it does

Starry Frontiers begins the player on a small ship with a population. They then can grow their population and their exploration horizons by sending crew to planets to gather resources, building more modules to attach to their ship, and researching possibilities and technologies.

How we built it

Challenges we ran into

None of us were familiar with using object oriented languages or Lua for game development, so we had to learn as we went.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Although our game is not polished, we accomplished quite a bit given our skill level. The NPCs were a large success, as they were an exercise in wide scale integration with other processes such as dynamic pathfinding and resource management and generation. Another success, while not a complete feature, is the construction mode, which allows users to dynamically build their ship to their own unique ideas.

What we learned

We all learned a lot about object oriented programming, and the Lua language. We also learned to manage APIs to the data store for successive log ons.

What's next for Starry Frontier

We discussed continuing its development and publishing it as a full game.
