Starlight Shenanigans
Inspiration
My inspiration for Starlight Shenanigans came from the desire to create a cozy, fun, and interactive space where friends can gather, unwind, and enjoy unique activities under the stars. I wanted to blend the charm of a woodland retreat with the excitement of engaging experiences.
What it does
Starlight Shenanigans is a chill hangout spot set in the woods, featuring:
- A crackling bonfire for storytelling and relaxing vibes.
- A thrilling log ride that takes you on an adventurous journey.
- Target shooting games for friendly competition.
- A music bot to keep the party alive with great tunes.
How I built it
- I used a combination of VR design tools and scripting to bring the world to life:
- Designed the environment with realistic trees, starry skies, and a glowing bonfire.
- Scripted interactive elements like the log ride and target practice rifles.
- Designed personalized themed logos and images to import into the world.
- Integrated a music bot spot for customizable audio experiences.
Challenges I ran into
- Trying to learn how to create a custom import world and learning all the new features that are now available to me such as blender and typescript.
- Balancing aesthetics with performance to ensure smooth gameplay for all users.
- Troubleshooting interactive scripts for the log ride and leaderboards.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- Learning some new tools in a short amount of time to get a world vision mostly complete.
- Successfully blending immersive visuals with fun, interactive features.
- Crafting a world that fosters community and connection.
- Seeing visitors genuinely enjoy and engage with the space.
What I learned
-A lot about world building. I have only ever publish one world on my own before this world. I have learned a little bit about some many different tools in order to create a custom import world. I am getting really comfortable with blender and 3d modeling, and slowly learning typescript.
- The importance of balancing design and functionality in VR world-building.
- How small details, like lighting and sound, can significantly enhance immersion.
What's next for Starlight Shenanigans
We plan to:
- Add more interactive experiences, like some party type mini-games.
- I want to add some IWP items and learn how to add more custom UIs.
- Host themed events to bring the community together in unique ways.
- Continuously refine and update the experience based on feedback.
