Inspiration

COVID-19 has caused a lot of problems for people's physical and mental health. This is what inspired us to make this project - we wanted to help people like us who might not be in a great state after the end of lockdown.

What it does

Our app, Sportal (for "Sport Portal"), allows users to create events where they can invite others to join them in sport activities. People can see different activities/events near them and can signup for them, allowing them to find new friends and have fun while also furthering their fitness journey!

How we built it

We used React.js with TailwindCSS and Material Icons in the frontend (hosted on Netlify), as well as Flask with Python (using a JSON Web Token authorization system) for the backend. We also used Figma to sketch out our UI design.

Challenges we ran into

Time, time, time! We used every single bit of our time, but still couldn't get in all the features we wanted. Also, hosting the code at the last moment was a huge hassle, as it was nearly impossible to debug on production.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're very proud to have worked so well as a team together to have finished this project in time. This hackathon was really stressful in terms of time, especially since we had to leave working on it for a few hours in between due to other responsibilities.

What we learned

Don't spend too much of your time thinking of your idea. And, don't spend it all on your UI either.

What's next for Sportal

In the future, we would like to expand, adding rating systems, more safety precautions, and even larger events that people can organize as a group!
