Inspiration

We realized that there is a very common unmet need in the social media market - people who want to check their Twitter while blindfolded.

What it does

Every time someone who you've followed on Spitter tweets, Spitter will call you and read their tweet to you.

How we built it

Python using Twitter's streaming API to listen for tweets, and the Twilio API to call people and listen for incoming text messages. We used Flask and Amazon Elastic Beanstalk for the code that listens for text messages.

How to sign up for Spitter

To follow someone, text "Follow twitter_handle" (without the quotes) to 617-858-8543. For example, "Follow realDonaldTrump". It is not case-sensitive.

To unfollow someone, text "Unfollow twitter_handle" (without the quotes) to 617-858-8543. For example, "Unfollow realDonaldTrump".

I worked on getting the Twilio API to call a phone and read a pre-recorded message and configured the AWS S3 and EC2 setup. I also developed the Android app for the project.

I created the logo for our App (Spitter). Since I have very limited experience with and exposure to programming, working with online APIS, and web development, I was under the guidance and mentorship of Taylor, Daniel, and Yifan. I learned how to use GitHub , git, some android app development in android studio, some basics of aws (Amazon Web Services), and some of the basics of the Twilio API.
