Inspiration

We got back pain. all of us.

"We all spend hours hunched over laptops. We realized that 'back pain' isn't just a nuisance; it's a long-term health risk. We wanted to build something that doesn't just track posture but actively corrects it."

What it does

"SpineAlign uses an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) to track the curvature of your spine. When it detects a 'slouching' angle, it gives an alert."

How we built it

We used an Arduino Nano to handle the IMU and vibration module. After calibration, the vibration module is activated by a change in angle.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenge was filtering out 'false positives' related to the slouching of the spine.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We made something at the end!

What we learned

We learned how to use Arduinos and how to pivot in a fast-paced environment

What's next for SpineAlign

More modules leads to more accurate feedback, allowing the user to understand which points specifically cause back pain.

  • By logging slouching data to a local database, we could use Python to generate weekly "Spine Health Reports" for users to track their progress over time.
  • Utilize better hardware for more efficient results.
